What excites you about your character in Pinocchio – Mistress Cherry?
My primary character, Mistress Cherry is brilliantly fun to play as she has been created by the writer for this adaptation. She has been invented to delve further into Gepetto’s life as a toymaker and the initial incarnation of Pinocchio – however she definitely isn’t all that she seems! She is fun and flirty – however, she definitely has a dark side; and it’s always great as an actress to play these contradictions!
I am also really excited to delve into some puppetry whilst becoming one of Pinocchio’s guardians in the play – the snail. Adopting a new physicality is always a challenge; luckily we have some fantastic experts on hand to help us on our journey – one of Iris’s puppet consultants has worked on the Little Shop of Horrors and Labyrinth movies (both favourites from my childhood!) so I know we’re in safe hands!
